Wonky Felt is a tiny art installation that started out on a 6-inch square of missing carpet, otherwise known as the floor hole. The floor hole is located in downtown Modesto, California. Wonky Felt’s creator, Sara (that’s me!), busily set a new felt display each weekday–an effort that spanned two whole years (from 2018-2020) while the floor hole remained. With the new carpet project nearing, Wonky Felt has begun to think “outside the floor hole” with lots of new, exciting ventures!
On this site, you’ll find some behind-the-scenes details and backstories about many of the installations. Feel free to take a look around, but most of all, be sure to keep up with Wonky Felt on Instagram or on Facebook to see the latest and greatest themes!
Modesto Bee Article
The Modesto Bee recently featured an in-depth article that delves into the backstory of Wonky Felt and is probably the best description of its existence thus far! There’s also a video and some close-up shots of favorite felties.
Good Day Sacramento
In December 2018, I got to share my inside joke with the world when Wonky Felt was featured on Good Day Sacramento! You can check out the video here! Update: In August 2020, Good Day came back to visit and get the latest on the floor hole! Check it out here!
ModestoView Magazine

In October 2022, ModestoView Magazine contacted me for a Wonky Felt themed cover and feature in for their November issue. I cobbled together a collection of “Greatest Hits,” cleared a spot for a photoshoot and off we went! See how many scene pieces you can recognize on the cover and spot the felt-created “M” logo throughout the magazine!
